Jim Ricken was a true all-around horseman and cowboy. A corrective farrier by trade. He rode bareback horses and roped in rodeos. Early in his career he trained cutting horses and reining horses.

Jim trained race horses for 34 years in a wheel chair. He and his wife Sallie, who is a renowned trainer in her own right, developed horse therapy techniques that are widely used and very popular today.

They were truly ahead of their time. Jim's knowledge of a horse was highly respected. Many trainers and even veterinarians would seek his opinions and answers to their questions.

In 1968 Jim Ricken developed "Rickens Foot Formula #1" for race horse foot conditioning. He believed that you should start at the foot and work your way up for conditioning a horse he saw a need for a hoof dressing for horses burning their feet on the track, and for general foot health and maintenance.
